  Rodney Ewing

Rodney Ewing is an artist working out of San Francisco California. His drawings focus on his need to intersect body and place, memory and fact to re-examine human histories, cultural conditions, and events. He approaches this by creating work that contains components such as doorways from the slave fortress in Goree', Senegal, a visual interpretation of a church exploding in Birmingham and the four lives that departed within it, or of a nameless silhouette placed in a suspect line-up. Ewing feels that historical narratives and current event reporting require us to be tourists and by-standers. With his work he is pursuing a narrative that requires us to be present and intimate, because understanding is knowledge examined and shared.

Ewing's work has been included in numerous exhibitions including "Who's Afraid of San Francisco" (FreyNorris Gallery 2006), Lisa Dent Gallery (San Francisco, CA 2005), and "Cartography" (Johnsonese Gallery, Chicago, IL 2005)
